*Introduction*
The escalating conflict in Sudan has reached a tipping point with the capture of Wad Madani (ref. 1), a crucial aid hub and sanctuary for displaced persons, by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied Janjaweed militia. This move not only threatens the lives of millions but also exposes the international community’s failure to uphold its responsibility to protect civilians. The Darfur Union in the UK demands immediate and decisive action to prevent further atrocities, avert humanitarian catastrophe, and hold perpetrators accountable.
*Wad Madani: A Lifeline Severed*
Previously spared from the violence plaguing Sudan since April 2023, Wad Madani had become a beacon of hope for hundreds of thousands fleeing the capital’s turmoil. Its strategic location at the crossroads of major trade routes made it the central hub for distributing vital aid throughout the country, particularly to the Darfur region (ref. 2). The RSF’s takeover has severed this lifeline, jeopardising the fragile existence of millions dependent on the flow of food, medicine, and other essential supplies.
